Later scholarship uses the “imaginal world” to discuss forms between pure intelligibility and sense. The phrase has a history that should not be retrojected unchanged onto every text ascribed to Ibn al-Arabi.
Distinctions and context
The interpretive challenge is to clarify what kind of form is at stake and whether the account belongs to Ibn al-Arabi or a later philosophical synthesis.
Research question
Where is the term itself used, and where is an imaginal role inferred from khayāl or barzakh?
